Witnessing To Homosexuals

The Queen James Bible
The great thing about biblical evangelism is that it really doesn't matter who the person is, what they believe, their faith, or their sexual orientation the approach really doesn't change. We are friendly, strike up a conversation with someone, starting in the natural realm we then swing to the spiritual. From there we get their view on the afterlife and then inquire if they would consider themselves to be a good person. Take them through the commandments to bring about the knowledge of sin and then lead them to the cross.

However, if the person you are talking to happens to be a homosexual the topic will likely come up, so its good to be prepared to address this from a biblical perspective. Christians get a bad rap when it comes to dealing with homosexuals and because of a hateful few such as the Westboro Baptist folks we are all looked at as hate mongers. However these kind of people (Westboro) do not represent Christ at all. They certainly do not represent my thoughts on the topic. Do not misunderstand me, it is clear from scripture that homosexuality is a sin and someone living in this lifestyle is far from God. And that is why we must speak the truth in love to these people.

First, lets look at what scripture says about homosexuality. There are many verses in the Old and New Testament that condemn this practice, but the two most common I use in a witnessing encounter is the following:

Romans 1:26-27

26For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

9Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.
Its good to have these verses committed to memory and to be able to show them to the person you are witnessing too. That being said,  as a practice, I do not bring up the topic with the person unless they do. As Ray Comfort states you have 10 other cannons (The Commandments) so use them.

I had a witnessing encounter recently with a young man, I will call Tim for the sake of anonymity, that was a professed atheist. We discussed his beliefs in evolution for a while, but I then asked him since we had addressed his intellect, could we now address his conscience. He said "of course." As I was taking Tim through the commandments I asked him if he ever looked at a woman with lust (7th commandment) and he said "no". I said, "come on, you have red blood in your veins right." He just sort of smiled. I asked him again, "you have never once looked at a woman with lust in your entire life?" Again he said "no." I bluntly asked him is he was homosexual (do not be afraid to do this). He gave a nervous laugh and shook his head to the affirmative. From there I just continued with the commandments. Once I recited back what he admitted to me, that he was a liar, a blasphemer, a thief, an adulterer, and a murderer at heart, I asked him if he would be innocent or guilty on judgement day. He stated "guilty." I asked him if he would therefore go to heaven or hell. He replied "hell." I asked him if that concerned him and he said "no, because I don't believe in it." I reasoned with him a bit longer about the importance of what we believe versus if what we believe is true. Then the source of his unbelief started to rear its head. Tim began talking about how the bible condemned homosexuality and he didn't agree with that. He tried to quote a verse, but couldn't remember it. I got out my bible and showed him the two verses above and told him it is clear from scripture that it is sin.

However, I told him, even if he was straight he had ten other cannons he was staring down the barrel of and  he would still be earning an eternity in hell. Of course I pleaded with him that it is not Gods wish that he go to hell and I did not want that for him either. He remained hard of heart and prideful so I did not share the gospel with him. Remember biblical evangelism is always grace to the humble and law to the proud.  We continued to talk for a while and I kept looking for just a smidgen of humbleness and conviction, but sadly never sensed any. We shook hands, he thanked me for taking the time to talk to him in such a respectful manner and we went our separate ways. I still pray for this young man today.

Another common objection that you will get from homosexuals is "I was born this way!" To which I say "your right!" This usually gets a shocked look from them because they are waiting on the gay bashing to commence. I continue on to say, "we were all born this way.....with a sinful nature." For some people its lying, for some stealing, and for some its a sexual sin which could be fornication, pornography, or homosexuality. So you can see we do not need to zero in on this one particular sin, you have 10 cannons, so use them!

Briefly, I want to address something that has come to my attention. The homosexual community now has what I'm sure they believe is a new trick in their bag. There is now a Queen James Bible (QJV). No, I'm not kidding, I wish I was. You can see this blasphemous perversion of the Holy Scriptures here. Basically the publishers admit that they took the King James Version of the Bible and either changed or removed the verses that condemn homosexuality. In an article written just days ago Matt Slick of CARM shows you the verses that were changed and addresses the publishers justification for doing so. Slick does a very thorough job of taking the verses back to the Hebrew and Greek showing that the verses as translated in our KJV is accurate in regards to the sin of homosexuality. So definitely head over to CARM and read the article because you will likely face this out on the streets.

Above all, remember to be loving and respectful with everyone you encounter including homosexuals because they need Jesus Christ just like everyone else.

Take a listen to this great witnessing encounter by Todd Friel talking with two lesbians.
